I’m Kayla, a Missoula-based photographer for the wild, the hopelessly in love, and the ones who don’t do things just because they’re “supposed to.” Whether it’s your wedding day or a curated date night straight out of a rom-com, I’m here to capture your story. I don’t just take pretty pictures. I capture the moments that speak louder than words. The uncontrollable laughter, the wind-tousled hair, the stolen glances, and the way they look at you like you’re the only one in the world.
Montana mornings just hit different. The air is crisp, the trees hum softly around you, and everything feels slower in the best way. During the Hybrid Hangout retreat, we got to create something that truly captured that energy — a styled micro wedding tucked away at The Cabins at Blacktail in Lakeside, Montana.
Styled and brought to life by Devin and Shay, the creative duo behind Hybrid Hangout, this shoot was all about showing how intimate weddings can be both wildly romantic and beautifully elevated.
The day started slow and easy. Our bride, Sami, got ready in one of the cozy mountain cabins, sunlight spilling across the wooden floors while she slipped into her gown from Dalliance Gown Rentals. Her Jimmy Choo heels rested nearby, paired with delicate Luz Made jewelry and soft, effortless glam by Marcela Cloud Makeup and hair by Cultured Roots MT. Every detail was thoughtful — modern, simple, and full of personality.
Across the way, Tyler adjusted his classic suit from ASOS, easygoing and cool, ready to meet his bride among the trees.
The ceremony took place in an open clearing overlooking the cabins and the forest below — an intimate gathering of fewer than twenty of their closest friends and family. Everything about the moment felt still — the hush of the forest, the golden light spilling through the branches, and the quiet hum of the mountains holding it all.
Forage and Floral brought the space to life with the most stunning floral installations — tall, colorful arrangements bursting with warm oranges, soft yellows, and romantic lilacs that framed the couple perfectly. Sami’s bouquet echoed it all — wild, textured, and full of life, like it had been gathered straight from the mountain itself.
As Sami and Tyler stood hand in hand, surrounded by their people and the quiet rhythm of the trees, the moment felt sacred — peaceful, heartfelt, and entirely their own.
Every detail from this day was intentional. The ceremony backdrop draped in creamy fabric gave the forest a soft, elegant contrast, while the floral pillars brought a burst of color and texture to the scene. Rentals from Empress Tents & Events tied it all together with timeless, understated pieces that let the landscape shine.
The paper goods by Lichen and Pines Letterpress carried that same earthy sophistication — modern typography, soft tones, and tactile textures that tied the entire vision together.
As the sun dipped behind the mountains, the celebration carried on into the trees. A wooded clearing transformed into a dreamlike dinner setting — strings of lights weaving through the pines, candles flickering across tables dressed in mossy green linens, and pops of citrus and color bringing everything to life.
The tablescapes were a vision of organic beauty — bright blooms, fresh fruit, and modern tableware that felt both elevated and grounded. Guests gathered beneath the canopy of trees, glasses in hand, laughter echoing softly through the forest.
Dinner by Forage 406 was nothing short of art — fresh, local, and beautifully plated. Each dish was paired with wines thoughtfully selected by Complementary MT, creating a dining experience that felt intimate and indulgent all at once.
As twilight deepened, the evening kicked off with a champagne tower — laughter spilling into the cool night air as glasses clinked and bubbles sparkled in the golden light.
And to finish the night, Mountain Mamas Cupcakery brought out a cake that was equal parts stunning and delicious — bold, modern, and perfectly aligned with the day’s design. Its bright green and coral tones popped against the dark forest backdrop, drawing everyone in before the first slice was even cut.
As the lights shimmered above and the forest grew quiet, the whole space felt enchanted — like the mountains themselves were part of the celebration. It was intimate, artful, and effortlessly magical.
Tucked high above Flathead Lake in Lakeside, Montana, The Cabins at Blacktail feel like a hidden mountain retreat — quiet, private, and surrounded by miles of towering pines. The property is made up of a handful of beautifully designed modern cabins scattered across the forest, each one cozy yet elevated with all the little luxuries that make you feel at home in the wild.
There’s a peaceful clearing known as The Island, where ceremonies can overlook the cabins and the valley below — the perfect mix of rugged Montana beauty and refined design. With natural hot tubs, a Finnish-style sauna, open meadow spaces, and that fresh cedar-scented air, it’s one of those venues that somehow manages to feel both grounding and luxurious all at once.
Watching Sami and Tyler move through the day — laughing, holding hands, soaking it all in — you could feel the love and artistry that went into every second. Styled or not, the emotion was real.
Because that’s what makes Montana weddings so special. They don’t need perfection — just heart, connection, and a little mountain magic.
This styled shoot came to life as part of the Hybrid Hangout retreat — a passion project built by Devin and Shay, two visionaries who have poured their hearts into creating a space where artists can connect, create, and grow together. What started as an idea to bring photographers and filmmakers into community has evolved into something so much bigger — a retreat that feels like equal parts education, inspiration, and creative revival.
Every element of this day was a reflection of their artistry and heart. Devin and Shay curated a design that was deeply intentional — every texture, tone, and detail chosen to complement the wild beauty of Montana. They have this rare ability to blend elevated design with authenticity, crafting spaces that feel both luxurious and deeply grounded in nature.
From the soft forest ceremony to the glowing dinner under the pines, every moment carried their signature touch — thoughtful, soulful, and effortlessly beautiful. It wasn’t just about styling a shoot; it was about creating an experience that reminded everyone why they fell in love with storytelling in the first place.
